Star Trek 1067: Companionship

1067. Companionship

PUBLICATION: Star Trek: The Next Generation #56, DC Comics, January 1994

CREATORS: Michael Jan Friedman (writer), Deryl Skelton (artist)

STARDATE: Unknown (follows the last issue)

PLOT: Lwaxana Troi must be ferried to a diplomatic conference where the isolationist Eregeans want to discuss the possibility of joining the Federation. Many of the crew are invited to present the friendly face of Starfleet. After Alexander shows an interest, Lwaxana also arranges for his class to attend. Soon after their arrival, Eregeans attack and kidnap six members of the delegation. Three of them wake up with the other three's consciousnesses sharing their head space - Selar in Geordi's body, Deanna in Alexander's, and Worf in Lwaxana's. They try to escape, but are stopped by armed Eregeans...

CONTINUITY: Lwaxana and Alexander are reunited for the first time since Cost of Living. Lwaxana recounts her encounter with Odo (The Forsaken). Dr. Selar plays a role (she is aboard ship as late as Genesis, Season 7). Alexander's interest in diplomacy is explored (Firstborn). Miss Kyle (New Ground) is along on the school trip.

DIVERGENCES: None.

PANEL OF THE DAY - Why the Snow White outfit? Because Lwaxana, that's why.
REVIEW: On tv, Lwaxana and Alexander are a potentially deadly duo. In the comics, they may not be quite as irritating, but you never know. Once this becomes a "Freaky Friday" type of scenario, you know you're in trouble. At least it's not tv, or else we'd have Brian Bonsall trying to act like Deanna Troi, or Majel Barret doing her best Worf impression. Brrr... So a very dodgy start to this story. As for the art, Skelton inking himself gives a much rougher result, with more obvious, even awkward, photo referencing.
