Reign of the Supermen

Having finished with daily Star Trek reviews - relegating them to an only occasional status - I needed something to replace them. You know me, I'm not happy unless I have a long-running series in the mix. Sure, I could have started watching another show, but schedules being what they are lately, it's not really viable. At the same time, I wanted to get back to the blog's roots as a comic book blog. And so... Reign of the Supermen.

Every day for at least the next year, I'll be presenting a different Superman. Different eras, alternate costumes, Elseworlds, Red K transformations, Bizarros, pastiches, alternate futures, replacements, tv and film versions, you name it. Superman's been through a lot.

Why? Well, in part because I can. In part because I've always been fascinated with "alternate" versions of characters (a "Siskoid" is an alternate version of Sisko, that's where THAT comes from). And in part because Superman is not so super right now (and hardly a "man"). I just want to be reminded of where the character's been while he's walking across America, and away from us.
Hope you'll join me.

Awesome. Superman is my favorite comic character by far. I'm really looking forward to this series.

Great idea! The myriad ways in which Superman is portrayed demonstrates that the character, like the comic medium, is capable of representing so many types of stories despite the assumption of stereotypical blandness.
my goodness that first photo really looks a lot like something that would be going on across the Bay from me in San Francisco. Mr. Siskoid, if you ever make it out to Cal. come and visit me. i'll take you to the future site of Starfleet Academy and up to Sausilito where they have a couple of humpback whales named George and Gracey. only about 20 minutes north of my town is Alameda. it's where they used to keep the nuclear wessals.

Billy: But can I reach 365? My research implies that I can!

David: That's across the continent from me, but if I ever do...

I love it!

Comics? Good.
Superman? Good.
Alternate versions? Good.

What's not to like?

Looking forward to it. Should be a lot of fun.
