Reign of the Supermen #29: Superman Island

Source: Action Comics #224 (1957) and #513 (1980)
Type: ObjectIn 1957, Superman built an island in his own likeness and forbade everyone on Earth from visiting. The sole purpose of this island - to store vast amounts of kryptonite he managed to collect as a potential energy source for the world. That science project failed and Supes threw the island into space.

23 years later (!), writer Marv Wolfman decided it was time to do a sequel.
Superman Island returns from space, and it's been colonized by the last surviving inhabitants of a dying world. Now they're under attack from H.I.V.E. who want to get their hands on the kryptonite and make Superman their bitch. With the help of the aliens, the Man of Steel defeats H.I.V.E. and then sends the island back on its way, through a wormhole in the direction of a new planet for his allies.

The idea of storing kryptonite on an island in the hopes of using it as a possible energy makes (comic book) sense.

Going out of your way to make said island in your own image? That's classic Silver Age Superman...
