Cat of the Geek #112: World War II

Name: World War II
Stomping Grounds: Peanuts (comic strip and cartoon)
Side: Evil
Breed: Unknown (presumably American shorthair)
Cat Powers: Scratching up Snoopy's doghouse, unseen. Powerful blanket hogger. Fighting all comers.
Skills: Eat 2, Sleep 5, Mischief 8, Wit 5, Intimidate Snoopy 7
Cat Weaknesses: May or may not weigh 500,000 lbs. If so, may prove to be a weakness.

Cat of the Geek moves to Saturdays! Why? Several reasons, actually. First is that having a regular feature on a Wednesday broke the flow of whatever thematic week I planned to do. This way, all the weekly features are bunched into the weekend. Second is that weekends have lower traffic, so writing something long as was my habit, may have been counterproductive. Readers coming in on a Monday might not have time to get to Saturday's posts, especially if they are longer than normal (which was the case). At the same time, it allows me to do a longer article foe Saturday's Reign of the Supermen. Lately, it's been harder to find "point and recommend" Supermen for Saturday.

So what happens to the features usually posted on Saturdays, like What If and Batman vs. the Thing? They'll just have to show up on week days.

I always thought Snoopy was fighting WWI? The Intertubes seem to confirm it.

The First World War could have been prevented by the judicious application of a baloney sandwich, by the way. As Wikipedia tells it:

"Princip was standing near Moritz Schiller's cafe, having apparently given up [after previous assassination attempts failed], when he spotted Franz Ferdinand's car as it drove past, having taken the wrong turn. After realizing the mistake, the driver put his foot on the brake, and began to back up. In doing so the engine of the car stalled and the gears locked, giving Princip his opportunity. Princip stepped forward, drew his FN Model 1910 pistol, pistol-whipped a nearby pedestrian, and at a distance of about five feet, fired twice into the car. Franz Ferdinand was hit in the neck and Sophie (who instinctively covered Franz's body with her own after the first shot) in the abdomen, and they both died before 11 a.m."

He fought IN the first, but AGAINST the second.
