Reign of the Supermen #369: Joel Kent

Source: Superman & Batman: Generations (1999)
Type: ElseworldsAmalgamondays presents... What if we mixed Superman with Lex Luthor, and further, what if we mixed Luthor with the Ultra-Humanite? Hey, one bald guy equals another, right?

Yesterday, we looked at the Superman from John Byrne's Generations (dubbed Earth-3898 in Absolute Crisis on Infinite Earths). That Superman had a daughter who went on to become Supergirl, but Clark and Lois Kent also had a son, which they named Joel Perry Kent. Because Lois was exposed to Gold Kryptonite by Luthor while she was pregnant, Joel was born without powers. His parents chose to hide the truth from him so he wouldn't feel super-shame. Ultra-Luthor befriended Joel when he was a teenager and told him his father was Superman and that he was de-powered by his parents. Joel bought it hook, line and sinker, causing a rift in the family. When Joel went to fight in Vietnam, he was responsible for the massacre of civilians and his men turned on him and left him for dead. He survived thanks to a young Vietnamese girl who nursed him back to health and called in his real father figure - Luthor. (Joel and Mei-Lai would marry and have a son later adopted by the Waynes who would become the hero Knight-Wing). Lex restored Joel's powers and gave him a power-suit that fired Green K blasts, and sent him off to get revenge on his family.
Joel kills his sister at her own wedding (with Batman II), but he was betrayed as well! By the time he gets back to Luthor's HQ, he discovers the formula that gave him powers is rapidly killing him. All part of Luthor's plan. And so Superman lost both his children on the same day.

Man, there's just no shortage of Supermen! And I always liked purple and green costumes in comics for some reason. They really catch the eye on paper.

Editor: It's one of those color schemes that only works in comics.
