Yee-Haw! New Trailer for Doctor Who!

It's been a bit heavy on the word count this week, so I'll postpone by regular Dial H feature this week to instead talk a little bit about Doctor Who's new Series 7 trailer. Let's watch together, shall we?

So ok, it's rather heavy on The Gunslinger (if that is indeed the title, it's a nice wink to the Hartnell story recently reviewed in these here pages), which, according to IMDB, is scheduled to air third. Looks like fun! The snowy mountaintop, with the Dalek eye poking out is equally intriguing. Dear Lord, let's hope the Daleks have found a way to play around with their shape. Might take the sting out of the candy-covered redesign. Other things that flash by rather fast:
0:19 - An Egyptian princess with otherwise contemporary characters? Could one of the men be Rory's Dad? (That's the only other episode title as yet released.) Characters reappear from 0:24.
0:25 - The cliff face from The Time of Angels. Surely just a location reuse and not a link to the weepy ones?
0:52 - Big robot dudes, and they interact with the Egyptian princess... what IS this story?
0:54 - Some fans are speculating this is the first Doctor as played by another actor, as a tie-in to the 50th anniversary celebrations, or even as a way to infer that the new companion played by Jenna-Louise Coleman could be a regenerated Susan. Does that theory hold water for you?
0:54 - Rory's Dad (if it's him) and they're flying a rocket together.
1:05 - "Give me a Dalek any day." Famous last words.

So it looks like there's material from maybe three episodes. More when we get more. You excited yet?

Sadly, not the First Doctor - it's David Bradley (Filch from the Harry Potter movies) playing a character (villain?)called Solomon... he has an earring, so rather unlikely to be First Doctor material ;)

Although this doesn't stop Jenna-Louise from being Susan as she's not introduced until episode six (Xmas Special) and no details/pix have been released of that yet.

I wasn't buying it either.

I am definitely starting to get excited. As for the re-use of the Time of Angels location, Steven Moffat has mentioned that the Weeping Angels are returning, so it could possibly be the same location in story.

POSSIBLE SPOILERY BIT about The Weeping Angels: episode 5 (last one of 2012, before Xmas Special) - Ponds exit - New York.

So well advertized I have to let it slide ;).

PS, Have you noticed with the "new" Blogger comments form (and its irritating two word Captcha things) that it now appears to be impossible to subscribe to the comments and thus automatically discover if anyone has replied to your comment! Surely a step backwards?

I've been told, but I was never offered the option on my own blog so I didn't notice.

The template keeps changing, hopefully blogspot will reinstate it.

I also have to guess the words a couple of times before I get them to work. And I am not a moron.

Doctor Who excited! I'm unsure whether to try and avoid ALL spoilers this year; a difficult task when I read Doctor Who Monthly, to be fair. Do you ever read it (via import), Siskoid? It's got lots of quirky and fun features that I think you'd like.

Siskoid said...

No but I'll check it out by your recommendation.

It's in a fairly unique position... it's been running for decades, but it isn't a BBC magazine. That means it doesn't quite have to tow the party line. It tends to be overall positive about most things, although more in a case of trying to look on the bright side. Dodo's accent still gets slated, obviously.

Plus, they revealed this week that if there had been another series of the Sarah Jane Adventures, RTD was planning on bring Ace back. That would have been awesome.
