Mary Tyler Moore vs. Big Bang Theory

Spoiler: Big Bang doesn't win.

Please don't waste your time defending Big Bang Theory, a show I've hardly watched more than 20 minutes of and that doesn't interest me in the least. It's not really about that. It's just how I drew you here. Rather, check out the scene from this episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show that starts around 13:00. I won't spoil it here, but that is one geekariffic comic book reference, coming from a surprising source.

Certainly beats the token geek humor mainstreamed for friends-of-geeks-but-not-geeks-themselves I've see on BBT. Not saying it's funnier, just that it's way more satisfying when you get the reference.

"They don't give bad guys their own comic books!"

Oh, if only that were true...

If only.

Even back then though, Tomb of Dracula had been running for a couple years, hadn't it?

There was a Joker comic and a Kobra comic too, at least for a while.

Yep, the Joker #1 would have come out the same year as this episode I think!

Holy $#!!, Mary Tyler Moore said "Egg Fu!" That's unbelievable!

You're welcome ;-).

As I recall, the Joker comic didn't last very long. The Comics Code Authority wouldn't allow a comic where the villain wins and the Joker got caught at the end of every issue. The enforced premise got old quick.
