Dating Lucy Lane: The Horribleness I'm Expecting on the Supergirl TV Show

Noooooo... I don't expect the Supergirl show to be horrible, quite the opposite! But if Lucy Lane is to be a member of the cast - and she will be, as played by American Horror Story's Jenna Dewan-Tatum - then my fervent wish is that she be a horrible, horrible person.

Granted, with Cat Grant also in the show, that's a lot of Superman mythos women with a "bad rep", and I don't expect the show to practice character assassination on too many female characters. I just wouldn't do. But I would still love for Lucy and Jimmy to have had an unhealthy relationship in the past. Like Silver Age Lucy, I want her to stick a dagger into Jimmy's heart each time he sees her, probably with another man on her arm, or TWIST maybe she came out of the closet since they dated and it hurts his manhood deep. SOMETHING to make Jimmy miserable. Because that's what Lucy is for.

Producer Ali Adler has said she won't be a romantic foil, because they want to explore a Jimmy-Kara thing, and she's a "woman's woman". None of that contradicts my ideas about the character. If you're going to use Lucy, I think she deserves better than to be either a reminder that the show can't use Lois, or an open door for General Lane to walk through!

I forget what the details were, but something read about Sam Lane joining the show hinted that we may be going into Superwoman territory. So she may start off nice...

I sure hope Sterling Gates gets some credit for these storylines!

All of my Lucy Lane memories are of her as white-haired, theoretically extremely old thanks to the one long-standing problem Superman put less effort into fixing than Kandor, but showing no signs other than said white hair. During that era it's mostly Jimmy being awful to her, and it wasn't until much later that I read the stories that make the case that she deserved it. So I guess I'm saying I want white haired Lucy by the end of the first season...

Also, I really, really hate the modern 'space racist supervillain without a costume' version of Sam Lane and really hope that they manage to go somewhere else with the character this time. Anywhere else will do.

Lucy wasn't an old lady forever, she regained her youth but the hair stayed white.

When was this?!

As for General Lane, yeah, a dreadful bore as an Eiling wannabe.

Or if, if you like, a Thunderbolt Ross wannabe.

When did Lucy regain her youth? Jimmy Olsen #161.

I know that there were plenty of stories post-Superman Family consolidation where it's an obstacle to Jimmy and Lucy dating, though. If it's just that Jimmy finds white hair a turn-off, you'd think that someone would have invented some kind of hair dyeing product and placed it on the mass market for people in that kind of situation...

Seriously? He couldn't just have loaned Lucy a wig from his cross dressing chest? I don't recall Lucy showing between that #160 - I think she went off to look after children or something - and the Mindy Newell/Gray Morrow Lois Lane micro series. Sounds like I missed out on some classic DC couples shallowness!
