Krypto #13: The New Normal

From: Superboy #74 and Superman #130 (July 1959)

July 1959 marks the first month where Krypto is completely taken for granted as a member of Superboy's supporting cast, as much as Pa and Ma Kent, Lana, or perhaps closer to Pete Ross. In two Super-titles this month, Krypto appears, but is not central to either story.

In Superboy #74's "Superboy’s Voyage to New Krypton", Jor-El and Lara show up in Smallville and Superboy uproots his adoptive family AND Krypto to New Krypton, a planet with properties similar to the long-dead world. It's not great for Ma and Pa who now weigh a ton, nor does Krypto appreciate being turned into an ordinary pooch.
They all die when New Krypton blows up, but of course, Clark wakes up from a nightmare. Come on, you didn't think this would really happen!

In Superman #130's "The Curse of Kryptonite!", Superman is downed by a kryptonite boulder and tries to think his way out of the predicament - essentially turning the strip into a clip show of many other times he's been struck by Green K sickness - and then Krypto shows up as a Doggie ex Machina.
You know how Jimmy and Lois can just throw themselves out of windows, confident that Superman will somehow catch them in time? I guess Krypto provides that service for the Man of Steel himself.
