Krypto #17: First Solo Adventure

From: Adventure Comics #267 and Superboy #77 (December 1959)

What does Krypto do while he's out in space in between Superboy adventures? The truth can finally be revealed. In Adventure Comics #167, we catch up to the super-pooch after he's helped Superboy with whatever nonsense, and he's happily chasing meteors and destroying them with his heat vision. And then he sees something that infuriates him:
He dials his disgust down when he realized the catstronaut us a mere kitten and that it's been cruelly sent into permanent orbit where it will surely die of hunger. So Krypto does the right thing and steers the rocket down to the planet below.
After preserving his canine dignity, Krypto lets himself be captured by aliens who choose to venerate him and turn him into their king. He is showered with gifts, but not all gifts are appropriate for a Kryptonian dog.
So Krypto fakes his own death so they carry him out of the throne room, and off he goes, royal no more. (But likely to cause some kind of schism in that planet's Church.) Next stop? An asteroid with a mountain of bones and hot dog trees. A dream come true!
Indeed too good to be true, and the goodies turn out to be savage plants that lure space travelers to their deaths. Krypto makes sure the place is safe ever more by causing a mass extinction.
So now you know what Krypto does in between Superboy adventures: Have plotless adventures of his own!

That month, in Superboy #77, Superboy is having a bad day when Krypto puts in a treacherous appearance to make things worse.
Krypto: Willing Legion stooge in the endless trolling of Superboy.

So those aliens fool visitors into thinking they're hot dog trees...?

Probably into whatever the visitor would eat.
