One Panel #79-81: Masks

From Zatara: "The Emerald of Cheops" by Fred Guardineer, Action Comics #6 (November 1938)

When Action got onto the roster, I was happy cuz I would be able to use Superman at the top of the post, but holy cow, it's Zatara's adventures that are the most visually appealing. And by appealing, I mean, stone cold CRAZY.

From Captain Desmo: "The Masked Man: Part 1" by Ed Winiarski, Adventure Comics #32 (November 1938)
With this issue, New Adventure becomes (old) Adventure Comics; it would run under that title for the next 45 years (not counting when the numbering picked up again in the early 2010s). One thing about the description given of the eponymous "Masked Man" that might have helped Captain Desmo find him is that he was a dead ringer for Vincent Price. That's where I would have started anyway.

From The Crimson Avenger: "Mystery at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery" by Jim Chambers, Detective Comics #21 (November 1938)

Meanwhile, while we wait for Batman to make his first appearance in Detective Comics, the Crimson holds the fort, and very politely too.

Good scans of More Fun Comics continue to elude me through this period, but rest assured, it was still being published at the time. Just no superheroes in it yet (which may drive the quality of material available to the geek on a budget).
