Krypto #97: Krypto Merch in the 1970s

Before we leave the 1970s behind, let's do exactly as we did for the '60s and ferret through the Internet for Krypto-related merchandise that might have been made available during the decade. Now, the unlike the previous decade, the '70s weren't a high point in Krypto's popularity. If he'd been on Super-Friends instead of that poser, Wonder Dog (not even Wonder Woman's pet, pffft), it would be a different story.

Krypto proved to be a favorite in 1960s Japan, and it seems they got the message late about his dropping appeal. In 1971, he was featured in a Sun Records release, on both the front (above) and back (below) covers and in the small comic that came with the side "B" story.
The super-dog is all over the artwork, but does not actually appear in the story.

Then, my research comes up short, revealing a long hiatus before Krypto appears outside comics again. In 1978, Krypto shows up on one of several Superman-related stickers, available inside bread bags.
Special prizes weren't always the purview of breakfast cereal.

And then back to Japan in 1979 for the Superman Picture Book, a hefty cardboard children's book with original art.
Krypto and Supergirl join Superman in what looks like a straightforward alien invasion story within.

My thanks to the Collecting Superman website, my main resource for these obscure treasures.
