December Movie Marathon: Kaiju

I say kaiju, but any giant monster will do, no matter the nationality. Every year for the past few, I've been using December to watch one film per day within a certain genre or theme. I've done indie sci-fi (twice!), spy stories, cons and heists, and trains. This year, and largely because I've been meaning to watch all the Godzilla films in my 1989-2004 blind spot, I've chosen giant monsters. My rules are pretty simple: I can't have reviewed the movie on this blog already, so even the one or two I might have seen before, I'll not have seen for at least 13 years. For many people, Christmas is snow and carols and eggnog. Who's to say it can't also be kaiju demolishing cities in the wake of their giant wrestling matches?

In the past, I was able to assign a sub-theme to every day of the week. Because I've got to go through 13 Japanese Godzilla films in order, I've had to cheat a little, but here's what I've come up with, based on movies available to me:
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: GOJIRA!
Godzilla vs. Biollante
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
Godzilla vs. Mothra
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II
Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah
Godzilla 1998 (yes, I'm breaking my no-Roland Emmerich rule for this)
Godzilla 2000: Millennium
Godzilla vs. Megaguirus
Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla
Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.
Godzilla: Final Wars
Tuesdays: AMERICAN MONSTERS
The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms
Big Ass Spider!
King Kong 1976
The Mist
Q
Thursdays: MOTHRA (and FRANKENSTEIN)
Rebirth of Mothra
Rebirth of Mothra 2
Rebirth of Mothra 3
Frankenstein Conquers the World
Saturdays: MONSTERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Grabbers
Jason and the Argonauts
Latitude Zero
Matango (AKA Attack of the Mushroom People)
Sundays: ISHIRO HONDA SURPLUS
Atragon
Gorath
Space Amoeba
Varan the Unbelievable
The War of the Gargantuas

I'm feelin' radioactive for the holidays! Catch the action on Twitter and on each subsequent Sunday, and wishing everyone a safe December and survival through the other side to 2020!

This is going to be a fun month!

I am especially looking forward to reading what you have to say about the new Mothra films. I haven't seen any and I wonder what they are like

I've only seen the original, and of course her original-era team-ups with GZ. I guess I'll let you know!

Yeah, I did a little Godzilla marathon on Thanksgiving in memory of WOR in the 70's on cable and Crazy Eddie (whose deals are, "Insane!") I did vs Megagurius, vs Mothra (original), and Godzilla 2000.

Hey, isn't this virtually every other TV movie on Sci-Fi Channel/Syfy since the turn of the millennium?

Really? I don't know what's happening on TV necessarily, but I've never seen a 90s-2000s Godzilla movie on any channel I get.

A Google image search of my Godzilla comic brought me here. Thank you for using it and for giving me credit! Wish I had seen this sooner.
