One Panel #459: Bird Talk

From Hawkman: "Smoke from Nowhere" by Garnder Fox and Sheldon Moldoff, Flash Comics #24 (November 1941)

A little-used power of Hawkman's - presumably so he can avoid the ridicule heaped on Aquaman (for shame) - is his ability to talk to birds. Or rather, to interpret a WHEET and an AWWWKK to mean One-Eye here not only warns him the baddie has gotten his gun back, but also that the pet hawk has a sense of brotherhood when it comes to Carter Hall. Yes folks, One-Eye dies in this issue, and Hawkman is informed by another hawk that they will elect another chiefain to fly at his side. Between this and Black Condor being raised by his namesake, it seems the great birds of the DC Universe are a lot smarter than we ever gave them credit for.
