One Panel #494: DC's First Splash Spread?

From Vigilante: "Galloping Gold" by Mort Weisinger and Mort Meskin, Action Comics #44 (January 1942)

I can say this for sure, but even the full-page spread is rare in this early era of comics. Seeing an image that extends beyond a single page - and is not some kind of map, diagram or special ad - is even rarer. And yes, each page has its own panel border, and I've respected that above, but here's the full two-page spread (which, again admittedly, contains inset panels):
If it isn't the first such spread in a DC (National) comic, it's a among the first, and jumped out at me as something unusual.
