Who's Elu?

Who's This? A blob of light.

The facts: One of the lesser Omega Men, Elu first appears in that series' 26th issue (May 1985) and continues to appear through to the final issue (#38) and then in the 6-issue mini-series that follows (way later, in 2006). He also appears with the Omega Men in a recurring capacity in 2009's second volume of R.E.B.E.L.S.
How you could have heard of him: Good luck, but his most recent appearance (along with the Omega Men) was in The Flash Giant #4-5 in 2019.
Example story: Omega Men #28 (July 1985), "The Synoptic Net" by Todd Klein and Shawn McManus
Six Omega Men are escaping a Psion jail on the Spider Guild's Wombworld, Elu among them, as this issue opens. The Psions apparently "did something" to them, but they don't know what. For now, they concentrate on climbing up some crazy beanstalk to safety.
As the alarms sound, Harpis starts to carry them off to the sphinctering exit, but Elu refuses help saying "I will join you in a moment!". Is that Roguian shyness (no touching!) or does he have a plan? Uhm, I guess he just knew he could squeeze his form through the smallest opening and didn't want to hamper anyone else's progress.
Ryand'r went another way, and Elu is naturally a little despondent about his missing friend. After all, it was Ryan who recruited him into the Omega Men. But the Psions have released the Wrath-Hounds, so there's no time for worry. Elu is instrumental in getting a door open, but he's not yet used to group dynamics and doesn't know when to argue an order.
Well, oops. They race the other way, and Elu keeps going WHAM like he's a young George Michael. Not that I quite understand how the action works here:
Their various alien bacons are saved by Ryand'r who has found an ally within Wombworm's systems. The Hounds are routed, and the Omega Men are reunited with their friend.

It's not a big role - I don't think there's a GREAT ELU STORY out there - but he shows off his powers and personality. He's the cute alien among a bunch of superhero or monstery types, filling out the Omega Men's ranks. The team was big enough, and tangential enough to the larger DCU, that a lot of them became cannon fodder over the course of the series, but not Elu. He survived. Kept in reserve, but for what? The GREAT ELU STORY, still to come.

Who's Next? A WWI ace.
