An iconic hero has an iconic silhouette, and Superman does have that (with many a generic wannabe following suit with the basic outline). He IS the superhero outline. But that doesn't mean his shadow is intimidating! If I were a criminal and saw it, I would know it's all over, but defeat isn't fear. If I were a victim, I would feel relief.

Batman has a very different shadow.
