What's This? Monkey town.
The facts: Despite a retcon giving it alien origins (in DC Super-Stars #14, June 1977), Gorilla City is simply a hidden city of super-intelligent apes and the home of Gorilla Grodd as of Flash #106 (May 1959), created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino. Over the years, we met a few of its other citizens, like King Solovar and Giganta, and several ape characters either moved there or were retconned as coming FROM there (Sam Simeon, Detective Chimp, Ultra-Humanite and others). In Flashpoint, Grodd waged war on the rest of the world from Gorilla City, its most prominent appearance in recent years. How you could have heard of it: The Flash TV series did a "Gorilla City" two-parter, so. It was also featured on Arrow and in the Justice League animated series.
Example story: Flash #342 (February 1985) "Smash-Up" by Cary Bates, Carmine Infantino and Frank McLaughlin
Here's a use of Gorilla City that doesn't depend on Grodd (we'll see him next week, after all). Barry Allen has been soundly beaten, to the point of disfigurement, by Big Sir at the Rogues' manipulative behest. The only medical experts he trusts with his secret identity are the doctors of Gorilla City, so he's off to equatorial Africa and only barely makes it before collapsing.
These guys aren't just geniuses, they're equipped with science fiction technology. And soon enough, Barry is convalescing in full facial wraps. Imagine, the KING actually operates on you.
But Barry has asked another favor of his simian friends, and while he returns to his trial (it's THAT era), they lure Big Sir using a cute little monkey (actually someone's child!), and kidnap him!
When we next see Big Sir, his mind has been restored and he helps the Flash against the Rogues who wronged him. Gorilla City isn't just good at surgery, it's also quite adept at psycho-therapy!
If Gorilla City wanted to, it could probably fix the world. But it's DC's Wakanda, isolating itself from the international community who might very well try to poach its secrets. The one black stain on its record is giving birth to Grodd, but again, that's a story for another day...
Who's Next? A not so mod gorilla boss.
