One Panel #845: Spy Smasher's Last Panel

From "The Battle-Scarred Cloak", creative team unknown, Spy Smasher #11 (February 1943)

Of his solo book, if not of his career. And it's a good one that explains why a spy-related hero would wear such a bright fashion accessory. (It just protected him from a blazing inferno, so, the tribute is appropriate.)

Spy Smasher was created by writer Bill Parker and artist C.C. Beck for Whiz Comics #2 (February, 1940). In addition to appearing in Whiz and American's Greatest Comics (there was only one issue of All Hero, advertised here), he supported his own solo book for two years and scored a movie serial in 1942. His last Golden Age adventure was published in 1948 under the name Crime Smasher (his post-war identity). In 1953, the rights were licensed to DC in the now-famous court settlement. His first non-reprint DC appearance was in 1976's Justice League of America #135. DC bought him outright in 1991, along with other Fawcett characters.
