Who's This? An Olympic villain.
The facts: Created by Len Wein and Dave Gibbons to fight Green Lantern in GL #173 (see below), Javelin is one of those sports-themed villains that are fairly common in comics, and in this case, seemed completely outmatched by his chosen opponent. No surprise, then, that he didn't face off against Hal aside from his two-issue story. A few years later, he goes on a mission for the Suicide Squad and is killed during War of the Gods. But it didn't take (someone forgot his impalement), and he shows up in the second Deadshot mini-series (2005) as part of the assassin team trying to kill Deadshot. He's once again killed. Except no. In the One Year Later era, he's a member of the Squad again, where he is left for dead (in Checkmate #7, 2006). Never fear, he shows up again in Justice League: Cry for Justice (2009), where Supergirl most definitely does NOT kill him.How you could have heard of him: Perhaps people won't remember his appearances in Arrow, Justice League Unlimited or Batman: The Brave and the Bold, but they'll remember him as one of the guys massacred in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, surely. Well, that's as maybe, but my friends knew who Flula Borg was from the internet, so I imagine others do too.
Example story: Green Lantern #173 (February 1984) "Old Friends, New Foes..!" by Len Wein and Dave GibbonsHere's the thing about the thing. His powers are limited and the only reason he has any shot against Green Lantern is because of the ring's yellow impurity. His uniform is pretty basic, and his accent is out of All-Star Squadron. HOWEVER! He's being drawn by Dave Gibbons, so we're still in for a treat. Even a simple Ferris truck hijack in the woods is gonna look boss. They're not just javelins, they're also battlestaves, so that's cool and adds variety. There are two things his entry fails to mention. One is that it's likely he's being supplied (or at least run) by the Monitor before they knew what role the Monitor would actually play in Crisis. The other is that he has his own color-coordinated gang to pick up the goods after he makes the attack!Guns?! Guys, stick to the theme. Unsurprisingly, GL easily captures them. But now Javelin flies in (body shape like a diver - a human JAVELIN) to save them.Well, look, my dude. If you're going to go against Ferris Aircraft assets, you HAVE to expect Green Lantern to show up. And not knowing GL's bag of tricks is a damning lack of research of your part. Then again, SOMEone supplied him with just the right javelin for the job, so who knows. But you know, if GL can defeat Goldface, he can overcome this. Eyes on your own sheet, Javelin!
A good beginning, but as we know, he'd become the background guy you kill off, so... his success would be short-lived. (I mean, yeah, a one-off GL villain who can then join the assassin's club of jobber villains, like Bolt, Shrapnel, etc.
Who's Next? The Son of Saturn.
