One Panel #887: Immune to Metal?

From Green Lantern: "Murder Under the Stars" by Bill Finger, Irwin Hasen and Martin Nodell, All-American Comics #51 (July 1943)

Was that a THING?! Mentioned several times in this story, Green Lantern's ring seems to specifically make him immune to metal (bullets, modern arrows, but not lions). This is instead of throwing up a forcefield like the present-day Lanterns do as general protection. Obviously an outgrowth of his vulnerability to wood (is the opposite of wood, metal?), but while the ring can AFFECT the lion, it's not PROTECTION AGAINST the lion. Yeah, I don't know it that tracks, and it's not remembered as one of Alan Scott's core powers.
