From The Jester: "Mrs. Van Cornish's Bequest" by Paul Gustavson, Smash Comics #22 (May 1941)
Not the most famous of Quality's heroes, the Jester will eventually become one of those "goofy cast" kind of strips, much like the company's Midnight (itself based on Eisner's Spirit), but in his first appearance, more violent happenings might have been in store for him. Why else have that creepy skull on his headdress? That is such a weird detail, and you won't find it in his Who's Who entry. It's there for a while though. The Jester fought crime for 8 years in the pages of Smash Comics. For more, check out Who's the Jester? on this very blog.
